Big Sur
Big Sur is 26 miles south of Carmel, down winding Highway 1.
The first time you drive down, don’t be surprised if your heart is in your throat; you are literally on the edge of a drop-off to the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean below. 
This is the road of the famous Big Sur Marathon held in April each year.
When you get there, be sure to stop at the Big Sur River Inn, Ventana, and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park.
